Access Disability Ltd - Promoting Disability Awareness

Access Disability Ltd is a disability awareness organisation; set up in 2003 to assist companies in complying with Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995 legislation. Initially we focused on physical and service audits, updating legislation (for example, Part M Building Regulations), as well as general good practice. We are a team of highly trained management consultants and feel we have a lot to offer varying businesses, whether they are large or small companies. We began working with pubs, clubs and hotels in Blackpool and soon realised that we have more to do than just audit reports.

Access Disability Ltd began by developing an Access PAC (Positive About Change) to assist and help small companies in complying with the DDA legislation. The pack was developed because we felt that some smaller companies could not afford to spend a lot of money on complying with DDA legislation. The PAC was and continues to be a cost affective way to comply to the DDA legislation, opening doors to social inclusion, and helping smaller companies open up their services to both customers and staff alike.

After producing the Access PAC we started working with the Blackpool Council Tourism Department, helping them produce the .Access Guide to Blackpool.. This was an important issue that needed to be addressed to help not just people with disabilities but also elderly people and parents with pushchairs who found it hard to access certain premises in the town. The guide provides information on how accessible companies and services are in Blackpool, helping people with disabilities to plan their day(s) out in Blackpool. At present, the Access Guide to Blackpool is in the process of being printed and should be available around the end of July 2005.

Access Disability Ltd have also produced the Positive about Change Wrist Band. This band is to promote disability awareness and aims to put a stop to social exclusion which we feel is not acceptable in today's society. Our aim at Access Disability Ltd is to open minds and doors and make exclusion a thing of the past: the DDA legislation is asking you to re-think not re-fit!
